Elopement Photography in Cornwall - The Cow Shed Weddings

YAY!!! It’s so nice to finally be blogging a wedding again. This was the first wedding that I have had the honour of capturing since March, when lockdown started and all weddings where postponed. What a stunning and perfect way to get married in this current climate. However Eloping at The Cow Shed in Cornwall was always what Olivia and Phil had in mind. It was such relaxed day, a beautiful ceremony, a walk around the grounds of The Cow Shed and a visit to say hello to the pigs, a bumble bee incident, and a cheeky drink on Portwrinkle beach. PERFECT!

I asked them a bunch of questions about themselves and their elopement below. Over to Olivia and Phil…

Hiya Olivia and Phil. Tell us your story of how you met, your proposal story and your journey as a couple up until your elopement?

We met through friends who were trying to set us up. We’re very glad they did and they got it so right! As soon as we met, we clicked instantly and knew that our future was to be spent with each other.

We had been together about a year when we went to the Cotswold for a little holiday. We stayed in a little log cabin, with a hot tub outside on the front deck.

When we arrived, Phil went out to the deck, asking me to stay inside whilst he did so. When he called me to come and meet him outside, candles were lit, rose petals scattered around the hot tub with two glasses and a bottle of champagne on a table.

The next few moments were a bit of a blur as he got down on one knee and proposed.

When we returned home from the Cotswolds, we got straight into looking at how we could make our dream wedding into reality.

What was stressful about the planning of the wedding and specifically what was stressful in relation to photography?

One word.. coronavirus!

We made it in the end but the delays and not knowing when our wedding would be for so long was really stressful! The planning of the wedding was initially straight forward.

We found our venue reasonably quickly and with it being so far from home we were so grateful that they provided us with a list of recommended suppliers. This is where we found Jamie.

With it being an elopement wedding, the photos never stressed us out. As it was only going to be the two of us.

This helped us in taking some really natural photos, which we preferred. Jamie supported us so well in getting these shots.

What do you wish someone had told you before the day or during the planning that would have made a big difference?

We knew what we wanted all along and had done our research to help us plan the wedding that we wanted.

What was your favourite part of your wedding?

The ceremony itself, particularly saying our vows. Being caught in that moment and having the nervous but exciting energy running through us whilst officially becoming Husband and Wife.

What is your favourite story/s from the day - The one/s that you will tell when you are really really old?

20 minutes after the ceremony we had a stroll around the Cow Shed room where we had just been married, to really take it all in.

We started to hear a really loud, frantic buzzing noise wherever we went, yet we couldn’t see anything around us.

As we went to hug one another for a photo, the buzzing got louder and we established that it was coming from my dress.

It turns out a bumblebee (and a reasonably big one at that) had managed to get underneath the layers of my dress..

Fortunately, not every layer!

After a little rearranging, Phil managed to set the Bumblebee free.

What made you choose The Cow Shed for your elopement?

The rustic, country vibe and the fact it was a small venue, that we felt fit perfectly with an intimate, elopement wedding.

What personal touches did you add to your day?

We took some stuff down to the Beach we went to after the ceremony. We had a blanket, confetti and a couple of glasses with some Champagne to create some photos that we knew we wanted.

What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding?

Do what makes YOU happy.

We eloped. And after telling people we had married, we had nothing but support and admiration for the way we did it! As they knew that’s what we wanted.

Also don’t plan to rigidly, be willing to go with the flow and alter plans along the way.

I love food, music and entertainment They are the some of the best things about weddings! What food did you have, was it yummy and what did you have to entertain yourselves?

Unfortunately due to the coronavirus we couldn’t eat at the venue.

What we did do though, was head to our hotel, got changed and went to get fish and chips to eat on the beach. Something so simple, was really nice to do.

A Shout Out to your INCREDIBLE wedding suppliers:

The Cow Shed - Venue and flowers
Hair By Emma C - Hair
Gemma Campbell - Make up
Georgina Scott Bridal shop, Martina Liana - Dress supplier/fitting and Dress designer.

Why did you choose Jamie Webb as your photographer and what was it like working with Jamie on the day?

We chose Jamie as we liked the look of his style of photos and when we first made contact he was so friendly, welcoming and easy going.

The more we spoke to him, it became clear that he wanted everything to be how we wanted it to be. He may have a style of photo but he wanted everything to be how we wanted it to be.

Working with Jamie on the day was brilliant. Being just the two of us in the photos, and having Jamie there with us, it was again so easy going and natural.

Jamie was so easy to get along with, accommodating of what photos we wanted to create whilst also offering his advice on what he knows looks good.

Is there anything else that you would like to add?

A huge thank you to Emma and Gemma who created the exact vision I had in mind for my hair and makeup. Both were really supportive in what were testing times.

With Jamie, we reiterate the words above and would not hesitate to recommend any of the suppliers to anyone for their wedding.
